Dance Direction International is a well – respected and long established Dance Studio formed by Des van der Spuy and Debby Tomlinson. There are branches in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, and London, UK.
Des van der Spuy has been teaching since 1980 and was joined by Debby Tomlinson in the early 1990. Debby moved to London, Surrey in 1996 to open a branch there and hence Dance Direction International was formed.
Dance Direction International, based in Glenwood, Durban, is affiliated to Association of International Dance Teachers (AIDT based in Johannesburg, with branches in USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Israel etc). The Durban DDI branch is affiliated to IAAASA (Acrobatic Society based in Pretoria) and SASAD ( SA Society for the Advancement of Dance in Durban). Des van der Spuy has been Chairperson of the Congress Committee of SASAD for over 15 years, organising highly successful International and Local Dance Workshops for all dancers and teachers to attend to grow and inspire dance in SA.

OUR RAISON D’ETRE:
We strive to balance technique and performance in our learners. To obtain this we offer examination classes and open classes in disciplines of:
Modern/Contemporary/Jazz/Theatre Dance, Tap, HipHop and Acrobatics.
We also offer open classes in Street/Bboying Dance and Gym classes for the fitness enthusiasts (Body Conditioning, Cardio Work, Dancercise and Stretch & Posture).
We encourage students to further their dance education and work towards a teachers diploma whereby they can make a successful career out of their talent and training. We teach from 3 year olds upwards.
We participate in Exams, Competitions, Shows, Corporate functions, etc. All this helps the pupil to gain confidence and strength within themselves. They learn discipline, respect for peers and teachers. They learn to work & achieve for themselves, and they learn to use their mistakes and disappointments to help improve themselves. They always pick themselves up. Their minds are stimulated as well as their bodies worked and toned and stretched. They learn to go beyond their comfort zones.
In our Studio, we encourage passion for dance and the arts. We love to see our dancers up on stage performing and gaining knowledge and confidence within themselves. Our dancers are encouraged to compliment and help those around him/her. They learn to be team players as well as soloists. Our warmth in the studio amongst each other, has carried many students through their lives.

We are a very up market Studio following and participation in all the new styles and trends. We keep abreast of all new and innovative ideas.
